Welcome to the Cub Scout Pack 172 webpage

We are located on the Naval Support Facility South Potomac base in Dahlgren, Virginia, and are part of the great Mattaponi District of the National Capital Area Council.  Our pack is made up of dens of Tigers, Wolves, Bears and WEBELOS.  Adult Leaders guide our scouts in their careers using life experiences and positive mentoring to build self esteem and moral character, and to develop friendships that last a lifetime.

Membership:
Boys that are the sons of active duty military or civilian base employees may join our pack.  Dens are arranged as follows:
> Tiger Den: Boys that have completed kindergarten.
> Wolf Den: Boys going into 2nd grade
> Bear Den: Boys going into 3rd grade.
> WEBELOS Den: Boys going into 4th or 5th grades.

A boy may join the pack at any time of the year and the pack will provide the appropriate advancement book.  Families are required to provide all uniform items except 1st time issue patches and insignia.  Replacement insignia can be purchased through the pack and hats are optional.

Activities:
We have year-round activities to keep the boys interested and motivated.  This includes weekly den meetings, monthly pack meetings, hikes and camp fires.  Our big activities for the year are pinewood derby races and the Blue & Gold Banquet.

Community Service:
Cub Scouts is an organization that promotes citizenship, so we participate in several community service projects.  These range from Christmas Carols at the Senior Citizen Center to base clean-up projects.

Parent Involvement:
As with any youth activity, parents are the first and most valuable step to program success and enjoyment by their Scout.  We understand that not all parents may become registered leaders, but their are several activities where a parent's help is going to be greatly appreciated.  You will enjoy seeing the look on your scout's face because their mom or dad is helping them with a project or handing them an award for something that you accomplished together.

Fundraising:
To support pack and den activities the boys will participate in various fund raisers from paying 'Den Dues' ($45.00 annually). Please contact Pack Leadership with Fundraising ideas.

Feel free to stop by one of our meetings at the Chapel Annex on base, Wednesdays @6pm
or contact our Committee Chair, Samantha Folkner at dahlgrenpack172@gmail.com

Yours In Scouting,
